Learn to play

If you are interested in learning the mandolin or guitar, there are several teachers amongst Concordia’s membership. You can learn at any age.

Because the mandolin has the same tuning as the violin, players of the violin can pick up the skills to play a mandolin quite quickly. Their left hand can find the notes on the fingerboard and because the mandolin has frets (unlike a violin), there are fewer problems with intonation.

Concordia has regular ‘open rehearsals’ which new players can attend and try playing with the ensemble starburst demo. Our conductor, Basil Hawkins, is also a teacher and can coach new players through the music. Rehearsals take place in East Malvern on Wednesday evenings.
