Corinella Concert on Saturday 23rd August 2025
Corinella Community Hall
Concordia travelled to the lovely coastal town of Corinella, Victoria and played a most enjoyable concert for both the audience and players alike.
Featured on the program was our first performance of The Godfather Suite, which was kindly given to us by The Moonlight Mandolin Orchestra from Cambridge, England, who can be seen playing this poignantly beautiful piece on YouTube.
Playing the mandolin with Concordia for the first time was the marvellously talented Mujgan Tamer, who joined us from the Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra. Also making his debut was guitarist, Terry Killen. Terry attended our Mitcham concert in May and won our CD door prize. When we contacted him that week, he expressed an interest in playing with Concordia. We are very grateful he did!
Our soloists featured guitarist Michelle Nelson, who performed the famous Lute Concerto in D Major by Antonio Vivaldi, Holly Brick on the mandola, performing Romanze by Théodore Ritter and young soprano Katie Maxwell-Hawkins, who sang Once Upon a December from Disney’s Anastasia.
Many residents of Corinella will remember Stanley McGeagh who was a resident of Coronet Bay since 1990. Stanley passed away on August 5, 2025. His wake was the day before this concert. Being partner of Judy John, long-time mandolin player and Life Member of Concordia, members played Londonderry Air as a tribute to Stanley.
Thank you to the residents of the Corinella and Coronet Bay community who assisted in promoting our concert. The atmosphere on the day was amazing and our audience was noticeably larger than our 2024 concert at this venue. We hope to see you again when we next visit.
