Basil Hawkins - Dip.Mus.
(Calcutta), Dip.Mus., B.Mus. (Perf) (Melb)
Basil Hawkins has been
the conductor and musical director of
Concordia since 1989.
He is well known in Melbourne as a
musical director and conductor of
light opera and musical theatre.
He is also a teacher and
adjudicator, having been an examiner with the
Australian Music Examination
Board from 1989 to 2002.
Basil has taught music for over
thirty years. His appointments include
Assistant Director of Music, Essendon Grammar School, Melbourne
and Director of Music at The
Hutchins School, Hobart. He lectured in
piano and keyboard studies at the Tasmanian College
of Advanced Education. His last
teaching post was Director of Music at
Carey Grammar School, Melbourne.
Basil arranges much of the music
for Concordia, some of which is featured on our compact discs.
He now has a teaching practice in an
eastern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria.
