An exciting programme is planned including Bach's Air on the G String, Zigeunerweisen
by Sarasate and the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni
A centrepiece of the
programme will
be a fascinating work - the Klezmer
Suite for clarinet, piano accordion and percussion by Elke
Tober-Vogt
featuring David
Laity
(clarinet) and Juliette
Maxwell (piano
accordion)
David Laity studied at the Victorian
College of the Arts with
Isobel Carter-Stockigt and Phillip Miechel completing a Diploma of
Music in
1981.
In 1998 he
attended the Mozarteum International Summer Academy in Salzburg and
studied
clarinet with Alois Brandhoffer. He has
performed in Croatia and Austria at the Dubrovnik and Split Festivals
and the
Neuberger Kulturtage with the Geminiani Orchestra.
David has been
principal clarinet with the Stonnington Symphony orchestra since 2001
and plays
clarinet and bass clarinet with Melbourne City Opera. He also performs
regularly with Melbourne Sinfonia and various pit orchestras.
David teaches
clarinet, flute and saxophone and is head of woodwind at Trinity
Grammar.
Juliette
Maxwell
first started learning the accordion
in England when she was 8 years old. Although initially self-taught,
much of
her inspiration came from her mother who won many championships
throughout the
U.K.
In 1994 she continued her accordion studies with Ian Southwood in
Melbourne, and later with Fred Witt who was himself a former student of
the
highly acclaimed Hohner Accordion School in Trossingen, Germany. She is
currently working on her performance diploma with Ian.
Juliette joined Concordia
in 1994. Since then she has played the
accordion both as a member of the ensemble and as a soloist.
She has also played with other amateur orchestras around
Melbourne, including the Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra, and in 1998 she
played
in the Legin production of Fiddler On The Roof, featuring Topol, at
Melbourne’s
Regent Theatre.
Juliette
teaches piano accordion, piano, double bass and music theory. She also
plays
double bass with the ensemble and other symphony orchestras.
